Sunset Splash Cocktail Recipe

  • Author: Ethan

Description

A tropical layered dream in a glass, this Sunset Splash Cocktail is the ultimate beachy escape—no passport required. Coconut rum, pineapple, and orange juice create a fruity, refreshing base, while dark rum and grenadine add bold contrast and a beautiful “sunset” effect. It’s a fast, easy showstopper that’s perfect for summer parties, brunches, or sipping solo on the patio. Quick to make, stunning to serve—get ready to impress!

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 oz coconut rum

  • 1 oz dark rum (or spiced rum for a twist)

  • 1 oz orange juice

  • 1 oz pineapple juice

  • ½ oz grenadine

  • ½ oz lime juice (optional, for added tartness)

  • Crushed ice

For Garnish (optional):

  • Maraschino cherry

  • Pineapple wedge

  • Fruit skewer (like watermelon, mango, or pineapple cubes)

Instructions

  1. Fill a hurricane glass (or tall clear glass) all the way to the top with crushed ice.

  2. In a cocktail shaker, combine the coconut rum, orange juice, pineapple juice, and lime juice (if using). Shake well for about 10 seconds.

  3. Slowly pour the shaken mixture over the crushed ice.

  4. Using the back of a spoon, gently float the dark rum on top for a layered effect.

  5. Drizzle the grenadine slowly around the inside of the glass—it’ll settle beautifully at the bottom to create that “sunset” gradient.

  6. Garnish with a cherry, pineapple wedge, and a fun fruit skewer for that tropical bar vibe.

  7. Serve immediately with a straw. Stir before drinking if you want the flavors fully blended!

Notes

  • Crushed ice is key to keeping the layers distinct—avoid ice cubes if possible.

  • For a lighter version, use coconut water instead of coconut rum.

  • Want a fizzier twist? Top with lemon-lime soda or club soda after layering.

  • Make it a mocktail by swapping the rums with coconut water and using fruit juices only.

  • For parties, you can pre-mix the juices and coconut rum in a pitcher. Add ice, dark rum, and grenadine to each glass just before serving for the full sunset effect.
