Ingredients
-
½ cup real dill pickle juice (strained, no seeds or herbs)
-
½ cup cold water
-
3 tablespoons unflavored gelatin (about 3 packets)
-
2 tablespoons sugar or honey (adjust to taste)
-
2 teaspoons lemon juice (optional, for brightness)
-
1–2 drops green food coloring (optional, for that gummy worm look)
Tools You’ll Need:
-
Worm-shaped silicone gummy mold
-
Dropper or small funnel for filling
-
Small saucepan
-
Tray or baking sheet (for easy mold transport)
-
Refrigerator space
Instructions
-
Prepare your mold:
Set your gummy worm mold on a flat tray or baking sheet to make it easy to transfer to the fridge once filled. -
Bloom the gelatin:
In a small saucepan, pour in the cold water. Sprinkle the gelatin evenly over the surface and let it sit for 5–7 minutes to absorb and bloom. It’ll thicken into a gel-like consistency. -
Heat the mixture:
Add the dill pickle juice, sugar or honey, and optional lemon juice to the saucepan. Heat over low, stirring constantly until everything dissolves—don’t let it boil! Once smooth, remove from heat and stir in the food coloring, if using. -
Fill the molds:
Use a dropper or small funnel to quickly fill each cavity of your gummy worm mold. The gelatin sets fast, so work swiftly. -
Chill to set:
Place the tray in the fridge and let the gummies chill for at least 2 hours or until they’re firm and peel easily from the mold.
-
Unmold and enjoy:
Gently remove each gummy worm from the mold. Serve chilled or let them sit at room temp for a softer chew.
Notes
-
For extra chewy worms, add ½ tablespoon more gelatin.
-
Want a softer texture? Use slightly less gelatin—about 2½ tablespoons.
-
To make them spicy, add a pinch of cayenne or a few drops of hot sauce before pouring into the molds.
-
These store best in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 10 days. You can freeze them for longer storage, though the texture may change slightly.
-
Try them as a fun cocktail garnish or with popcorn for a savory-sour-sweet movie snack.
